ASANA CLASS: YOGA FOR INCARCERATED POPULATIONS
Finding Ease & Inner Peace: Yoga for the Incarcerated with Amma FandiƱo

This class considers the principles of Accessible Yoga and trauma-infomed yoga offering a unique and fluid combination of asanas (chair and standing), breathing practices, and deep relaxation.
This class will be designed to help to calm anxiety conditions, improve body awareness and release emotions held in the body, allowing the restoration of harmony and balance on an emotional, mental and corporal level.
Recommended props: Yoga mat, chair, blanket

WORKSHOP: YOGA FOR INCARCERATED POPULATIONS
In The Service of Life: Teaching Yoga to Incarcerated Populations with Chandra Williams

Bringing yoga and embodied mindfulness practices to incarcerated people can be one of the most rewarding endeavors a person can undertake. It takes commitment, skill, and deep personal practice. Most people living in jails and prisons will eventually return to their communities.
In this workshop, learn why providing trauma-informed, mindfulness-based yoga to incarcerated people is important and how we can skillfully serve people who experience trauma and mental illness.
Bring a notebook and an open mind.

COMMUNITY FORUM: YOGA FOR INCARCERATED POPULATIONS

Join experienced teachers Nick Utley, Chanda Williams, Juan Martinez and host Amina Naru, who will share their knowledge and experience in teaching yoga in jail, prison, and juvenile detention, and for at-risk populations. Our presenters will discuss trauma-informed teaching approaches, as well as special considerations for teaching in these settings.
As part of this discussion, we will invite you to ask questions, share your own work and wisdom, and network with other yoga teachers and organizations whose work centers making yoga accessible to incarcerated populations.
