In our inaugural Accessible Yoga Community Forum, De Jur Jones and Sarit Rogers will share their experiences teaching yoga in non-studio environments where trauma-informed approaches are paramount, including prisons, rehabilitation centers, and more. They will also share their tips for trauma-informed practice which can be applied to teaching in specialized settings and virtual or in-person studio / community classes alike. As part of this discussion, De Jur and Sarit will also explore the ways we can use the tools and practices of yoga to support mental health.

Meet The Presenters

Sarit Rogers

Sarit Z. Rogers, is a Somatic Experiencing® Practioner, accomplished photographer, writer, group facilitator, and trauma-informed yoga teacher. Sarit’s yoga certifications include a 200-hour trauma-informed Hatha/Vinyasa, Accessible Yoga, Yoga for All©, Restorative and Yin yoga.
Sarit facilitates groups and provides Somatic Experiencing®️ sessions to adolescents and adults in treatment. Sarit integrates mindfulness, invitational language, movement, and self-awareness, encouraging students to develop accessible tools for self-care, self-regulation and healthy boundaries. Her goal is to bring yoga and SE® to underserved communities where healing is needed the most and is often out of reach. 

Sarit is currently assisting Somatic Experiencing trainings, as well as participating in multiple advanced SE trainings to deepen and broaden her abilities to promote wellness.

De Jur Jones

De Jur has been a yoga devotee since 2001.She attended Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Therapy program, and offers yoga therapy to populations in recovery, those unhoused, mentally ill seniors, those trying to leave the life of sex trafficking and foster youth.

Teaching trauma-informed yoga to Commercially Sexually Exploited Children with UpRising Yoga lead to a deep dive into learning everything she could about trauma, and how yoga can help with embodiment, resilience building, self-regulation and healing. De Jur also teaches therapeutic, accessible yoga to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated adults with Prison Yoga Project and Prison Yoga+Meditation.

De Jur is a contributor to the Yoga Service Council’s best practices book series Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System. She is an Accessible Yoga Ambassador and the featured model in Jivana Heyman’s book, Accessible Yoga, Poses and Practices for Every Body.
